Marina Azevedo is a technical consultant at E+ Energy Transition Institute based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marina is an environmental engineer, with a Master's degree in Energy Systems from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and an ongoing doctoral degree in Energy Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She previously worked as a researcher at the Energy Institute of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), mainly focusing on projects for the power sector. Her professional experience includes energy planning, market analysis and regulation assessment tasks in order to provide strategic decisions, having participated in projects supported by foreign and national institutions (such as World Bank, AHK, UK government, Brazilian Energy Ministry - MME, Energy Research Company - EPE). During the EnerTracks Fellowship, Marina will expand on the study of the power sector decarbonization, in order to understand how Brazil can deal with a high penetration rate of variable Renewable Energy Sources, without having to increase the share of fossil fuel thermal plants to ensure the system safety.
