Zhou Yang
Associate at the Natural Resources Defense Council in Beijing, China, Agora Energiewende
Zhou Yang works with the Natural Resources Defense Council China based in Beijing on the Oil Cap Project and Coal Cap Project. Zhou works closely with governments, industry associations, and research institutes to support programmes on China's fossil fuel reduction, energy transition, and climate mitigation. Her work focuses on pilot projects with local partners on supporting coal consumption cap policy implementation in provinces and cities. Prior to joining NRDC, she was with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., where she conducted research and prepared publications on energy-water nexus issues.
At Agora Energiewende, she is working on drawing insights from German experience on phasing out coal to support Shandong, Chinese largest coal-consuming province, on a more smooth and sustainable transitioning pathway towards a cleaner future.
Zhou holds a Bachelor’s degree in Energy Diplomacy from Renmin University of China, and a Master’s degree in Energy and Environmental Policy from University of Maryland (UMD).
