Six member states currently account for 74% of coal-based electricity generation in the European Union. These important coal producers and users have no plan in place to phase out coal by 2030, although it is feasible and necessary for EU climate goals. Increased ambition across Europe must be reflected in national policies to mandate a coal phase-out, foster a just transition and accelerate the deployment of renewable energies.
