An international perspective on how decarbonisation strategies can foster a just transition and global cooperation (partner event of BETD)
The European Green Deal (EGD) is Europe’s comprehensive strategy for the clean transformation of its economy. However, it also aims to reach beyond the continent and provide stimulus and act as an example for transitions all over the world. Since one of EGD’s aims is to establish the EU’s role as a global leader by becoming a role model for the transformation and creating meaningful partnerships for the decarbonisation of some sectors and their value chains, it is vital to hear the perspectives of global actors taking an active part in this global transformation.
This partner event of the BETD hosted by the International Network of the Energy Transition Think Tanks (INETTT) presented and discussed the stage of planning, implementation, and main elements of the predominantly non-European national clean energy transitions.
The members of the network from Mexico (Iniciativa Climática de México), South Korea (Green Energy Strategy Institute), Vietnam (Vietnam Initiative for Energy Transition), Brazil (E+ Energy Transition Institute), Japan (Renewable Energy Institute), and Poland (Forum Energii) first presented their assessment of key elements necessary to accelerate the respective national transitions. In a second session panelists addressed the opportunities to learn from the planning and implementation processes of the European Green Deal and its possible role in fostering international cooperation.
In order to enable a lively exchange participants had the chance to directly address panelists during a longer coffee break and dive more deeply into the state of the respective clean energy transition.
