Implementing the 2030 ambition
The cases of lessons learnt, integration planning, and resilience building by INETTT (Official side event of BETD)
Event Recording
The Glasgow COP26 climate summit paved the way for enhanced climate action up to 2030, 2050, and beyond. However, so far, the sequence and the pace of GHG reductions has differed among countries – depending i.a. on their capacities, economic and political setting, and specific circumstances relating to the structure of their energy systems. The recent energy crisis has proven that each country will also need to strengthen its resilience to the negative effects of geopolitical shocks.
Successful implementation of 2030 climate targets will depend, to large extent, on countries embracing and using the knowledge from their past endeavours. It also can be substantially improved by drawing lessons and making use of effective solutions from other countries going through energy transition and/or avoiding measures which turned out to be ineffective.
During the event, the members of the International Network of Energy Transition Think Tanks (INETTT) from Mexico (Iniciativa Climática de México), Pakistan (Institute of Policy Studies), and Poland (Forum Energii) will present and discuss practical solutions for supporting the enhanced 2030 climate ambition. This discussed will include three dimensions: lessons learnt on preventing governmental backtracking on energy reforms, delivering plans on a new low-emission development strategy, and improving countries’ readiness to implement their energy targets despite geopolitical shocks.
